One of my bosses used to say people think that role of an accountant/finance department is that of a refree. We identify others' fault and penalize them. But in reality our role is rhat of a goal keeper. Yes we keep check and balance on others but in the end we are part of the team. In short accountants need to act as a facilitators. They need to talk to others to understand their point of view look at the business rationale and identify the things that can be tolerated and thingd that cannot be tolerated and communicate the findings using the language that business users can understand.
