I have some luck when I start my career as a trainee at the global MNC. In the trainee program, I learn from the best people, grow with peer trainees, and get kind and welcome from my colleagues and mentors. I am so impressed with the career path that the company shows me. My learning styles are a mix of visual, auditory, and auditory digital. My core competencies are planning, organizing, people and system development, approachability, resilience, driving for results, negotiation, and customer focus. The challenge/goal is to find the role that truly energizes you. In some cases, that can be in a small/medium size or where you get to do a little of everything or one of the nuanced roles. Explore them all, play around so you have knowledge in all areas with a focus in specific elements. That will make you a well-rounded, valuable part of the business.

A key aspect to consider is that T&D exists to serve the needs of the business and not on its own. It is therefore important for anyone intending to build their career in T&D or L&D to also build deep mastery of the business

T&D is about preparing workforce & developing talent. HR is about company-wide payroll, employee policies and performance management practices. The CPTD credential by ATD USA has a competency framework to identify the right career path. For example, I chose Training Delivery Specialization as it aligned with my role, VARK and Multiple Intelligences orientation. Further on, I developed an affinity for Instructional Design.
