This might be massively obvious, but in a world saturated with success stories, I think we need to cultivate humility to know we aren't the finished article. We sell ourselves all the time, but in a mentor or peer-mentor relationship, your most valuable offering is a desire to learn and grow. Humility is such an underrated value when it comes to content creators because the temptation is to shout about how epic you are all the time until someone notices (instagram). There are loads of courses that offer networks for peer-led support but we all know face-to-face support is best. If don't know someone who could mentor you locally, why not start a creative drop-in once a month in a coffee shop and see what comes of it

This is the best way to grow your skills, not only as a videographer, but as a business owner. The first time I had a crew join me for a shoot I felt so out of my depth and like I was the weakest link in the chain. But that experience gave me so much confidence the next time I needed a crew. You learn how to communicate your creative vision to a team, how to release other people who are better than you in certain areas (which makes the client super happy knowing that they have a team of professionals on board) and helps you see a bigger picture of what you could offer your clients. *Top Tip* If you're anything like me, the biggest barrier will be the need to control everything. So work with people you trust and let them do their thing

One of the early mistakes I made in my career was assuming I had it all figured out after graduating from film school.
