API's performs tasks like Creation, Retrieval, Update and Delete on Databases. It is also useful for other Application Specfic Processes like Authentication, Logging, Tracking, etc.

- In my experience, I have started with PHP. By knowing the basics of it and developing some projects I got clear about some topics like how Apache works, how to manage a database, how session management works how to use it for authentication, and CRUD operations, etc. By knowing all the basics I was able to switch to any framework or library, and my concepts were clear now I had to only learn the syntax and how that works.

Here are the steps that I followed after choosing programming language and framework of it you want to use: 1- Create a simple web server 2- write simple CRUD operations APIs 3- do the same with using DB(any of your choice SQL or NOSQL) 4- implement authentication and authorization 5- with step 4 try to implement RBAC 6- just reorganize your code according to the architecture suggested or what you liked. 7- deploy it on some free service. 8- do the same steps above to create a web socket. after these you'll be able to develop what ever project you want to develop.

Professionally, it opens up a new career path to become a Back-end Developer. While there are other skills required for a back-end developer job, these two skills are very basic and essential part to start the journey.
