Often times we try to do too much all at once. Lean has to start as a mindset. We need to start by addressing the areas of where the improvements need to happen and turn that into a project. Having data to support along with proper documentations and ways to communicate is the next step. Once it's made as measurable, then the lean concepts can be introduced. When lean techniques are well documented and it will present itself with all the benefits when executed - savings via efficiencies, health and safety, first time yields, less defects etc. Then moving on to the next project...nothing is fully complete without a sustainable plan.

Lean principles are applied with the objective of increasing the ToT(turn around time) of cash. For example in manufacturing - it is time we buy materials until sell to end customer to get cash. Shorter the time the more efficient it is. In the whole process - multiple tools and methods are used to identify opportunities and improve the whole process. The intelligence lies in identifying which tool and how it is to applied to improve the process. Lean principles outlines a broader definition of steps and methods to achieve this.

Process paradigms can cause waste. For example, a linear process with multiple stations (in series) is a familiar choice. However, if cycle times are short, a large percentage of each station’s cycle can be unnoticed waste. Each team member will spend a few seconds at their station as they move to get, fixture, and offload product. Similar movements repeat at successive stations. The accumulation of wasted time may not be readily apparent, as everyone appears to be busy and moving product forward. To streamline, consider using identical stations (in parallel) where more lengthy processes are performed in hybrid fixtures where the product isn’t moved as much. Each product will have less total processing time, and lower cost.
