In my experience, integrating firewalls and IDS may logically vary depending on the vendors and technologies involved. It would be better to be recommended to consult the documentation and guidelines provided by the respective vendors for detailed instructions on integration and best practices.

In my experience combining IDS and Firewall on perimeter network is a good solution as you can configure them to complement each-other. Also for HIDS, if you have a great solution of EDR and/or XDR, it is not necessary, better to spend those money in some other solution that will be very useful.

By combining both technologies, you can create a secure communication channel between remote users and your internal network. However, there are some limitations that need to be taken into consideration such as using strong encryption algorithms, implementing multi-factor authentication, and regularly updating and patching your firewall and VPN systems.
