I will say network more but network effectively and relevantly. i have seen people reaching out to anyone and everyone without going into any details. You have to network with people who are in same career and same interest like yours. i agree that diversity in networking adds value but here your aim is to overcome the standstill phase of your IT career so network with relevant people who besides being just a mere network connection can help you by being a mentor to you.

Technology is always changing. What is currently the hot topic of interest may not be in any list if we recheck after two years. With that in mind, The career goal also needs reassessment. I will do this every six months and see if items on my focus list needs addition/removal. Such right decision always keep my focus areas relevant in the current context.

In case you are not getting the opportunity to Implement the technology or your learning, try sharing it with someone. This will lead to more queries and feedback from the learner and will make you go deeper into the subject and get more insights that you may have missed while studying it. Mostly people conceal information and their learnings from others as they fear that other person will learn and excel more in his career. That's a useless thought. You should always be ready to share your knowledge as it will brush it up further during the interactions

Freelancing always help you in earning that extra income as well as utilize your extra time available with you. However, you should be ready to freelance even if it doesn't pay you anything or pay less. Your value will increase only when you master a particular subject or thing in a field. It will throw lot of other opportunities in life which may not be possible if you stick to only one job area. Let your skills get better with more projects and experience and it will give you more job satisfaction and fulfilled life. When a person feels that he /she is making an impact somewhere with his/her learnings and skills, it boosts the confidence and moral of a person which is very essential for career growth.

When you have done everything right i.e. you have upskilled and networked well but still things dont seem to move then you need to look inwards and check your soft skills and improve them. You need to demonstrate effective communication skills, leadership traits, ability to solve complex problems. LAstly you have to stay motivated and just remember that this too shall pass and there is light after every tunnel. So continue to work, you will reach the destination.

To my understanding, a persons career journey is a marathon and not a sprint. Therefore, its always good to pace yourself. There will be periods of peak and trough and that's ok. Continuously upskill yourself. Strive to be an SME in your area of work/ career and stay updated. Volunteer for projects that come your way, build a network. Opportunities and growth will come, be patient.

It could be time for a different position, company, or simply need to grow your network. But it all start by identifying what is stopping you from moving forward, then you can realized the action that need to be made.
