What do you do if your finances as a self-employed social media consultant are in disarray?

Taking track of my spending is one thing that has been so helpful to me in the past. I can literally tell you about how much I am spending per month as well as my income, and I would be correct. This is an important step because with this, I can always cut back on expenses that I don't need. It makes me feel in control of my finances. Nothing can sneak up on me, I have it all under control.

Here are some steps you can take to get things organized: 1. Gather Your Financial Documents: Credit Card Statements: Gather credit card statements to track business-related expenses. Client Invoices and Receipts: Organize any outstanding invoices you send to clients. 2. Separate Business and Personal Finances: Dedicated Business Account: If you haven't already, open a dedicated business bank account to track income and expenses more easily. Track Business Expenses: Keep meticulous records of all your business expenses. 3. Choose a Bookkeeping Method: Simple Spreadsheet: Start with a simple spreadsheet to track income and expenses. Accounting Software: Consider accounting software like QuickBooks for more advanced features.

Budgets are live savers and not restrictions as some may suppose. A good budget would give you the privilege of enjoying what you love the way you love it. Have a budget for your needs and your wants. Have a budget for the necessary deductions like taxes, black tax, tithes, social contributions, welfare etc. Creating a budget would help you know exactly what you are spending your money on.

You can't really get rich with debts. For anyone who is trying to build wealth, debts is something you should do away with. The period of paying debts may be more strenuous, less enjoyable, more frugal etc. but it's all for the best and for the health of your finances. You can decide to eliminate the small debts first before moving to the big debts OR eliminate the big debts first before moving to the smaller debts. Whatever way you choose, just ensure that you are gradually paying off your debts in a way that suits you. And before you know it, you are done with it.

Having a particular percentage I save has helped me to remain consistent with savings. For every payment that I get, there's a percentage that I save. Choose a percentage that you prefer, it doesn't have to be rigid but it has to be consistent. Saving as a freelancer is even harder but having a particular percentage you save can help you with your savings in the long run.

An investment in yourself pays the best interests. Always invest in your growth. The world is changing hence the need to constantly upscale. Attend conferences, seek out the latest technologies, read books, look for ways to increase your client base etc. You can't afford to be complacent, it does you no good. Always look for a way to reinvent yourself.
