What do you do if your library services need to implement new technologies?

This is not an if but a when, if you think broadly about technology. Library staff listen to other library experiences on discussion lists or at gathering events. Technologies that address strategic advancement get piloted and evaluated, while other interesting technological creations are collected and reviewed periodically. For instance, a new technology to provide library users with a transaction receipt might represent a strategic way to improve services to a large community. On the other hand, a VR headset may not have immediate application, but at some moment you hear about a job-training system that uses VR to let students experience some careers safely, and if you have a career center in your library, you have an opportunity.

The feedback of library staff as well as users can be used to determine which services require evaluation and improvement. Finding the issue will make it easier to create a plan and convince the library board of it.

After that, select a group of top library clients to test the LIS and then make the necessary adjustments to launch it massively with the support of tutorials, announcements, teaching sessions, and creating a knowledgebase system to provide help desk assistance that can be useful to newcomers.

Staff training is required for the implementation stage to be successful, particularly for those who are not technical knowledgeable. To ensure that everyone gets involved, the training should be conducted in phases. The project team will need to make sure individuals who are resistant to change are taken into consideration and given adequate time to adjust.

Train your staff to be familiar with the solution and make sure you all are carried along during the installation process.
