I did a few small projects leveraging machine learning libraries like Scikit-Learn to solve real-world problems like predicting flight delays, detecting spam, etc. The hands-on work really helped cement my understanding. Learning leading-edge skills like data science, and machine learning has opened up many opportunities for me. Well, I am not a Native app developer but I got to experience mobile app development as many JS frameworks now support hybrid app development. For me, one of the companies that I worked for had a mobile app that had no developers to work on and I was the one to pick it up. The app was based on Ionic and as an Angular developer, I was able to pick it up easily. This was a really great experience to develop, debug, test, and publish apps in stores. I got to learn a lot about how app deployment works for each platform (Android/iOS) simultaneously which I don't think most Native developer has the privilege of. If I were given a chance to start over, I would select Mobile App dev over Web dev.

If you are a Frontend Web Developer, knowledge of Database Management is really good to have but not necessary. I used PouchDb and Firebase for an Ionic app development. PouchDb has its own library for JS that provides class and you don't have to deal with any SQL queries. This made the implementation much easier. Whereas, Firebase is a document-based DB(NoSql) and is a lot easier to implement. However, when I started, I followed some YouTube tutorials (Fireship, Simon Grimm) and official docs which helped me a lot. Recently, I have been writing some SQL queries in my current Job however, complex join queries are still a challenge for me. You can always use TypeORM with JS/TS while working with a Database.

Code is communication. The developer that comes after you will have to maintain the code. Keep that in mind when designing software. I've been coding for about 12 years, self-taught. What I've observed in most developers is a lack of creative thinking. I don't believe that knowing some specific programming language means anything for the sake of hiring a candidate. A good software engineer should be able to understand the bigger concepts and be able to pick up any tools or language without much turbulence.

I do believe a specific domain expertise is important. For example software outsouring company focusing on specific software solution such as ERP, SCM, or specific industry such as banking, telecomunication, government, or military.
