If your core project is not related with deployment tools and your team is small I would just pay for somebody else to fix this problem for me, call it serverless, call it Heroku, fly.io or whatever. Focus on the problem you are trying to solve. The deployment model, and more at the beginning, is probably not it. The TCO of rolling your own + the opportunity cost always end up in negative returns and/or creating problems you shouldn't have at that stage.
