What are successful negotiation campaigns that led to social change?

Numerous negotiation campaigns throughout history have led to significant social change across various domains. Here are several examples: Civil Rights Movement, Women's Suffrage Movement, Labor Movement, Anti-Apartheid Movement.

Advocating and ensuring representation of Asians in New York City government. Supported Asians running for New York City elections to win the election!

The Civil Rights Movement was able to do what it did because of the television. Media is powerful and other countries were watching America… it is not a good look.

Ensure that those most impacted have a place at the table and that their voices are heard and respected. Follow the basic principles of CBPR/A.

The result was NOT a series of landmark legislation and court rulings that advanced the rights and opportunities of African Americans and other minorities. It did not advanced any rights, what it did was changed the regulations in order to continue doing the same thing wearing a different coat. This system was not made for the living man, it was made for civil = person = fictitious entity. It started by excluding the so called "black"|"coloured" man because of discrimination|fraud|deception out of this constructed commercial system, but it now continues in a different form against all living man by ways of pure deception|fraud. This is no longer about the color of the skin. #GodsLawAreTheOnlyLawsOnTheLand

It doesn't matter what is being agreed upon by the different governmental rules and regulations. History has shown and proven they will never agree let alone adhere to their own rules and regulations. Treaties were made to be broken by them so negotiation did not eliminate the problem. It only made the legislators overstand how to change it so they can continue to get away with Apartheid which is going on till this day. And not only against so called "black"|"coloured" people. This is no longer about race|ethnicity. This is all about economic status. #AllCrimesAreCommercialCrimes.

El Movimiento Anti-Apartheid en Sudáfrica, activo desde los años 40 hasta los 90, enfrentó el sistema de segregación racial. Climate based negotiation strategies must be carefully analyzed as most are done in the footsteps of 'media influence'. This creates a sensitive audience and can backfire easily. Mi experiencia me ha enseñado que los principios de la negociación son fundamentales en campañas de cambio social. Entender a profundidad las preocupaciones de todas las partes, establecer objetivos claros, construir relaciones sólidas, ser creativo y flexible, enfocarse en intereses comunes, comunicarse efectivamente y mantener persistencia y paciencia son esenciales para lograr resultados significativos en la promoción de la justicia social y los derechos humanos.

When diving into the specific topic of negotiation for a social change, one must get in touch with the realities of the society. In a developing nation, the grassroot eco-politics would be different from a developed nation. Here, not just a need to fill this gap but how effectively this gap can be filled must be studied and dynamically implied with respect to the changes happening in the societies. This foundation will help to better enable future negotiations as a strong bridge is formed.

Negociar cambios sociales implica principios clave: conocer intereses propios y ajenos para hallar puntos en común, preparación intensiva para credibilidad y anticipación a retos, comunicación clara y respetuosa para entender y ser entendido, flexibilidad y creatividad para adaptarse y hallar soluciones, y fomentar la colaboración para construir coaliciones y lograr objetivos comunes. Estas guías son esenciales para negociaciones efectivas y resultados beneficiosos.

Recognizing when negotiating is needed. Communication is the key to any solution. Knowing when to lead and when to follow. A good leader is also a good follower.

Collaboration This is another way to negotiate campaign for social change.It's I win-you win approach.Often referred to as expanding the pie negotiation style.Collaborators are willing to invest the time to expand value through uncovering interests.It is used when the value in the negotiation is substantial, the relationship is long term and there is a high risk for both parties.It’s however dangerous to collaborate with a party who is not reciprocal in the sharing of information.Make sure to share information at the same level of detail as your counterparts.And Defend yourself against a collaborative negotiator if you determine that it is not in your best interest to collaborate.Your time is short,so be careful who you collaborate with.

Para potenciar la negociación en el cambio social, es crucial elegir el enfoque adecuado—competitivo, cooperativo o integrador—y aplicar tácticas efectivas como el encuadre, cuestionamiento, persuasión y presión. La gestión eficaz del proceso implica planificar, iniciar, negociar y concluir adecuadamente. Aprender de campañas exitosas y aplicar estos principios y estrategias mejora las posibilidades de éxito e impacto positivo en la comunidad.

Strategies should also relook at the messaging, choice of use of words, questions, and persuasion, communicate strategically and tactically to pass the right messages for the intended social change.

For me, three things are important for negotiations for social change. 1. The public good in the change sought must be clear to everyone. 2. The unity of purpose amongst those seeking change must speak for itself. 3. The resolve must be relentless as often change is incremental and giving up in the struggle for small achievement is a killer. There are several examples of successful negotiations. We are currently going through challenging times that require the support, assistance, and involvement of every sector of society, including migrants who have settled in our communities. Unfortunately, in Latin America, we still face the exclusion of people who have acquired permanent residence status but are unable to access the same opportunities, programs, and services, or have their studies validated. This excludes them from being able to contribute to the social and health issues our societies are facing.

One must be open to new perspectives and must be curious to stay updated on the field so as to gain inter-disciplinary knowledge which in turn enhances negotiation strategies.

The original O.P. strikes me as a little glib, and un-grounded in the hard realities of life for those who are being left-behind by "progress" in the U.K., especially over the last 30 or so years by economic models used by major Political Leaders.
