To help someone who’s scared of change, start by listening to their worries without judging them. For example, if they’re anxious about starting a new job, break down the process into small, manageable steps like meeting new colleagues or learning new tasks one at a time. Remind them of past successes to boost their confidence. Set clear, achievable goals to make the change feel less overwhelming. Offer ongoing support and reassure them that change is a normal part of growth and can lead to positive outcomes. This approach can make the change feel more manageable and less frightening.

To help a coachee overcome their fear of change, I would: -Acknowledge their feelings and reassure them they are not alone - Then I would break the change into smaller, manageable steps. - Lastly, I would highlight the potential benefits, by connecting the change to their long-term goals to encourage progress.

The fear of change is attributed to the fear of criticism or judgment, one of six basic fears, which all humans have and under which all other fears align. As a coach, the understanding of how fear is built; why we have perfect faith in it… It’s about educating the client on why and further understanding of the resistance to change. When we’re confused, we don’t take action. Yet once it’s explained by a coach who understands how fear works how it was built and why it controls our courage and shuts down things we want to do … then the door opens and the client takes action, one step at a time.

I would gently explain that even every highly successful person feels fear - sometimes we feel fear of rejection or fear of failing or not being good enough in some way. You WANT TO learn how to take your attention off your fear and fix your attention on your dream in order to succeed in building the life that you’d love to live. My suggestion is: It’s important you acknowledge your fear and learn how to befriend it. This way, you honor fear’s presence, but kick it out of the driver’s seat in order to advance confidently toward your dream. The next step is to allow this dream to flourish by creating the environment necessary for it to unfold. “how about you take that fear and put it in a box”

📌 Here are the three keys: 🎯Encourage Self-Reflection: • Help the coachee identify the specific fears or concerns they have about change. • Encourage them to reflect on past experiences where they successfully navigated change to build confidence in their ability to adapt. 🎯Break Down the Change into Small Steps: • Simplify the process by breaking down the change into manageable, smaller steps. • Create a step-by-step plan that allows the coachee to focus on one small action at a time, making the change feel less overwhelming. 🎯Provide Reassurance & Celebrate Small Wins: • Acknowledge & celebrate each small step or progress made toward embracing change, reinforcing their confidence & reducing fear over time.
