Aligning HR strategy with business is extremely critical in navigating through the technology revolution that we are in the midst off. Workplace changes triggered post Covid, technology changes, diverse requirements and expectations of multi generation workforce, regulatory changes, business environment changes, competitive landscape changes, emerging business models etc to be considered while designing the HR plan. It becomes pertinent for the HR team to understand the big picture and the reasons for change. This will help them understand and assimilate the changes to be a key change agent. They will be able to anticipate any issues. All the above to be considered while revisiting the HR policies and designing the change management plan

I have operated in an environment where the organization was going through a flux. During difficult times, the HR team needs to be fully charged up as others reach out to them. Its difficult for the team to fake as if they are fully motivated, in case they are not. Here are few steps I had taken. 1. Be as transparent as possible. 2. Ask them to be an employee (not HR) and talk through their concerns so they can be addressed proactively. 3. Remind them about the highs and lows of an organization and how resilience get built during tough times. 4. Have them focus on upskilling & innovation, as well as stay steadfast to the yearly plan made for the organization from a HR perspective. 5. Stay as friends to talk through and motivate each other.

In an environment of Change, Leaders need to be purpose driven and have a clear outline of the change they are driving. For that to happen, understanding the why of the change and communicating the reasons to HR teams is crucial. Some things to consider through the Change process. a. Communicate with a sense of clarity and purpose. b. Let people know what role they play in the change. Roles often tend to start with Strategy to execution. c. Highlight the qualities that you are looking for in people to be successful in the change. d. Keep a track of the key metrics. How are we doing. e. Its ok to feel vulnerable through the change. You dont need to know all the answers. f. Constantly reassure. g. Stay the course and be focussed.

Before you finalize the HR strategy, have close room discussion with key HR leaders/change agents to understand the reactions/ responses you can expect while implementing the changes. HR being the eyes and ears for grass root level, it will help prepare proactively with required messaging, communication modes, communication champions, etc. While the above will not eliminate the issues completely, but will help minimize and HR will be able to participate and navigate through the changes effectively and efficiently instead of getting bogged down with challenges.

One way to engage the HR team more effectively is by actively involving them in the decision-making process, rather than merely informing them about what needs to be done. People thrive on being given responsibilities and feeling empowered. By asking for their opinions and allowing them to contribute ideas, you acknowledge their expertise and value their contribution. This not only improves their sense of ownership over projects but also increases morale and fosters a more collaborative and innovative work environment. Encourage open communication, and provide them with the resources they need.

involving the team in due process and clearing their assumptions which might create chaos can be dangerous . it is always good to proactively initiate a dialogue process to see their pulse and encourage them to share their thought process.

Bringing in new practices & processes which can be aligned with the current scenarios is essential. as their are stages to the processes implemented and they tend to wear out themselves with everchanging environment. it is good to always review the process and practices and bring new changes which will be effective.
