Your project team is short on skilled mechanics. How will you maintain quality control?

Mi ideología me lleva a pensar que como lideres, es nuestra responsabilidad formar constantemente personal de alto desempeño, entendiendo que en algunos casos esta fuerza laboral terminara yéndose a otra industria, pero si esta convicción se tuviese en todo el gremio, en algún momento esta fuerza laboral calificada llegaría a nuestra administración y se volvería un ciclo de mejora. Por ello debemos invertir en formar, tecnificar y enseñar buenas practicas en el hacer, esto acompañado de formaciones desde el saber, garantizaran una excelencia técnica.

I tend to agree with upskill of existing staff. El plan de capacitación del equipo técnico debe ser tan importante como cuando se analiza y se proyecta el OPEX del área. He visto que lo realizan el área del recursos humanos con apoyo de los líderes de mantenimiento y muchas veces no se hace la consulta a los colaboradores que llevarán esta actualización. Es importante recalcar que como toda carrera, el mecánico tiene una habilidad en análisis y resolución de problemas, esto puede ser potenciado con herramientas de gestión o ejecución. Estos dos campos deberían ser el enfoque del plan de capacitación a veces solo se piensa que deben saber ejecutar el trabajo pero un buen técnico soluciona el problema y previene que vuelva a suceder y así evitar las tan conocidas fallas repetitivas.

One of my many hats as an Engineer is that of project management. Within this role, carefully planning out each step and looking through the processes involved, matching each step/process dependent on the skill level of the mechanics available, allow better planning and better utilization of skill sets.

My use of Microsoft projects helps my team to determine the critical areas that affects the project and there allows me to identify issues quickly that may arise throughout. Routinely carrying out inspections at various points helps to maintain the standard of workmanship.

Não precisa trazer, num primeiro momento, soluções em IA ou inovações ainda em teste mas traga o nível de tecnologia com custo adequado ao seu negócio. Incorpore ao poucos esta tecnologia, pois mesmo para os mecânicos qualificados pode ser necessário um tempo de maturação e aprendizado. Mas inclua tecnologia nos seus projetos de melhoria, só trazer bons mecânicos pode não ser suficiente. Tecnologia treina, replica e mantém padrão.

I divide my mechanics into teams, with a senior experience member and persons who are similar in characteristics. The goal here is to form teams that can support each other by pooling their skill sets to accomplish objectives. Within each team there is cross training. This fosters team work. Teams are also competitive with each other and collectively where individual skills are not up to standard, ensure that quality is maintained.
