An approach that I often like to practice and advocate is recognise and appreciate team members for their efforts. Noting their hard work and bringing it up in performance management discussions can be a great reference point for them that their efforts are noticed and appreciated. Focus on appreciating team members' efforts to your clients/stakeholders after they complete their tasks effectively. This gives greater visibility about their efforts, which can seriously lift their morale.

As a Scrum Master, it’s vital to ensure your remote team feels appreciated for their contributions. Start by regularly acknowledging individual efforts during team meetings, highlighting specific achievements and the impact they have on the project. Implement a system for peer recognition, where team members can shout out each other’s successes. Schedule virtual coffee breaks or casual catch-ups to foster connections beyond work tasks, making everyone feel included. Additionally, consider sending personal notes or small tokens of appreciation for significant milestones. By consistently showing gratitude and creating opportunities for connection, you build a positive team culture where everyone feels valued and motivated to contribute

"Appreciation is a wonderful thing: it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well." - Voltaire Regular check-ins with remote team members are key to staying connected. I discuss tasks, deadlines, and genuinely connect with them. I also highlight their amazing work to clients and stakeholders, giving them recognition and boosting morale. Express genuine appreciation for team members' efforts. Be specific, sincere, and timely with feedback. Celebrate milestones and lead by example. Show your team you value and appreciate them, and they'll do the same for each other.

First of all, be a human. Acknowledgment of others' humanity is a huge step to avoiding them ever feeling underappreciated. It's actually a very simple thing to do. But, you have to actually care for it to be effective. If you have the capacity to care for others, you're on the right path. I'd be happy to discuss your particular issues with you to help you unravel the knots and find the source of the discontent. Communication can be challenging, and sometimes it's about finding the right words, and understanding why (for genuine repeatablility). If you don't, ah-ha. This is where we can start to really answer this question. Perhaps your employees have a point. What could you learn if you're willing to receive their feedback? (Let's talk)
