Map all IT functions and platform systems holistically 2. Group similar functions and systems from the many existing IT platforms 3. Choose a mature IT system and combine it with a database, then make sure the front application functions can be integrated well 4. Adapt IT policies and procedures to manage operational IT 5. I would assess the needs of the end state of IT. By this, I mean mergers typically try to achieve certain objectives such as gain market share, increase productivity, fend off competition, reduce cost. With a thorough understanding of this at hand, then a though IT assessment to see what would be needed to meet the merger objectives. I believe using IT Strategy and Enterprise Architecture as methods would greatly help in this effort

While these steps are necessary we need to ensure business continuity on both the companies which boils down to what is changing from the date of merger and what is not. we should focus on those day 1 changers and their related impacts (such as name change, tax codes, locations) etc.
