You’re a Global Talent Acquisition professional. How do you stay ahead of the curve?

Talent Acquisition professionals must be equally proactive and results-oriented. Layer on top of that - the ability to use data to impact their output. We must stay open to new ideas on how to analyze a situation, in order to logically evaluate it and recognize a new way to achieve goals. Every job or need to fill is unique, and must be treated as such, but that doesn't mean we abandon past lessons. Long story short, bring it all to the table - leave no stone unturned - everyone and everything is a talent source if you know what to look for!

To keep myself ahead in global talent acquisition, my primary recommendation, as well as the advice I offer to others, revolves around doing thorough research, staying updated with the latest trends, and actively connecting with global talent to gain valuable insights. Another strategy involves building a global network, engaging with professionals who possess extensive experience in working globally. Furthermore, to stay well-informed, I adopt the practice of following companies within the regions where I am hiring. This involves monitoring HR agencies, following LinkedIn influencers, and staying updated on the practices of companies to acquire comprehensive knowledge of trends and expertise in the field of Global Talent Acquisition.

We should embrace technology, build a strong employer brand, and invest in continuous learning. These strategies will help us attract and retain top talent in a competitive market.

In 2024, it is not so easy to source and target talent. Just because a candidate's LI profile says Austin, TX doesn't mean they are living or working in that market or even that time zone. My advice is the following:1) Don't assume you know a candidate before you connect. Nothing puts off passive candidates more than an incorrect perception about their interests, location or experience. 2) Provide clear and customized reasons to join which explain the vision and goals of the organization, the employer brand and the specific segmented reasons why (i.e.) a system engineer would want to work for your organization 3) Be transparent about the expectations in regards to office/hybrid or remote work. 4) Learn and adjust after each conversation

Even though the affinity bias is an unconscious reflex, we can fight it by acknowledging and addressing biases through self-reflection, education, and DEI(B) training.

Constant networking with people in your industry is huge. There are always new tools and methods that other people are using. It is always a great idea to stay sharp and ahead of the game.

I totally agree, always networking with professionals from the industry not only helps building network but it also helps broaden our perspectives and challenges in the market. Always professionals has to learn, unlearn and relearn and use of innovate recruitment strategies rather than being orthodox recruitment. Organization looks on what you have got on the table . Avoid complacency at all costs. You need to know your market like the back of your hand, gone are the days of 5 basic key words to search for top talent. You need to take time to educate yourself on the roles you’re hunting for. Stay informed.

I agree with many of the contributor's suggestions on the first five pillars. My add for a sixth would include "being a true business partner". For me this means, sharing, coaching, and training all of the principles in the first five pillars to every person involved in the hire decision making process. We must use our voice to inform hiring managers, interviewers, and any stakeholders how they can also practice the first five. This can include the ability to provide critical feedback to those that don't present these skills.
