Once you know what data you have, you can determine required protections. Next, add explicit permission settings and access controls to safeguard the data. Finally, invest in regular audits of your data inventory. This ensures ongoing compliance and helps identify potential security risks.

One of the things that I learnt during my time learning and talking about cybersecurity and data privacy is that RBAC is key but more than that an SOP regarding data handling is extremely important. A great tip is to think of implementing something like a custody chain. A custody chain is setup with evidence in criminal cases, cybersecurity or otherwise. Whoever touched that laptop the inspectors found at the scene gets noted down - translating this into data science lingo: Make sure to give access to people who really need it and do not escalate permissions in any case unless it is documented and that person would really need those for their job!
