Measuring student engagement is essential for understanding how well students are participating, interacting, and learning in your class. Various tools and methods can help gauge student engagement including classroom observations, peer assessments, Classroom Response Systems (CRS), formative assessments, etc. Also, asking students to maintain reflection journals or engage in periodic self-assessments can be helpful. This can provide insights into their level of involvement, understanding, and connection to the course content.

Polls, especially, is an easy and fast way to evaluate students' engagement. Its simplicity is of great benefit in resource-poor countries. Almost all the students are on whatsapp (Whatsapp poll), and it is an exercise that can be done in the classroom for immediate responses. Google forms is a more useful tool since the results will be complied. Google form can be accessed by virtually all students as long as they have access to the internet. And it costs almost nothing!

Mentorship has many faces. It doesn't mean giving assignments and examining your students. This looks like the hardest way of interacting between teacher and student. This may creat emotional detachment of the students from the class and the teacher. So there must be holistic and more interactive way to understanding of your students. What do they feel about the teaching method, how do they understand the subject matter, is their environment friendly and encouraging to forward thier views? Such issues should be addressed by the teacher. How can the teacher do that? By having a survey of the students attitude of the variables of interest. He/she can also make a pole about a specific area of interest needed to be addressed.

De mon côté, j'utilise Wooclap, ce qui me permet d'évaluer en temps réel l'appropriation des concepts enseignés. Je l'utilise également de manière asynchrone pour que les étudiant-es puissent se préparer aux examens

Pour les quizz et les tests, le meilleur outil selon moi reste Tally. Il est possible de réaliser des parcours d'évaluation fins et de varier le type de questions/réponse. Il est également possible de calculer des score et d'exporter les résultats de façon automatique dans Notion.

Through classroom observations, I get a firsthand look at how students interact with the course material, their peers, and the learning environment. This includes noting their engagement levels during lectures, participation in discussions, and their overall behavior in a natural setting. If class size permits, measuring student engagement is best done qualitatively through observation. A talented teacher knows intuitively whether or not a student is engaged in their own learning. I strongly recommend and use observation and interview( probing) to measure the student engagement in the classroom. It is very interesting to observe students during the lecture. If they are looking at their phone or computer, yawning, missing concept, making faces, staring outside, enough to judge that lecture is boring and they are interested.

My strength is storytelling. I teach business courses and there I find much space for including stories based on the topics. Whenever there is any difficult concept, I explain it with examples and short stories. Students really like my stories and always ask for them.

Case discussion teaching helps students participate in the discussion and develop an excellent understanding of the relationship between theory and practice. In this process, students interact with each other, will be very enthusiastic, and suggest various alternatives to tackle real-world problems. However, the moderator should have sound theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject to make the session effective. Discussion questions are naturally open-ended. However, the teacher could also present close-ended questions for discussion as to why and how a specific solution is the right choice. This helps students to delve into the subject and recollect their knowledge of the interconnections between various concepts.
