After a 20+ year career as a CEO I found myself becoming more passionate about developing leaders and was looking at combining that experience with a formal masters degree in coaching. After learning more about a master’s in coaching, I decided to get a master’s in counseling. I think that real life experience in developing people and formal education in understanding of the human condition is a great foundation to build on for a coaching professional. Get a credible mentor as you enroll in credible classes, preferrably ICF-accredited to ensure quality learnings. Doing those may hurt your pocket a bit in the beginning but the investment will be definitely worth it for as long as you do your due dilligence before deciding to enroll in an advance coaching coach or signing up with a mentor (who must walk the talk and embody who and what you aspire to be)🦄🌈

In order to excel at coaching, you need to grow your own Cognitive Complexity, by understanding HOW you construct "you" in context. Think about your thinking from a Cognitive Intention perspective to begin with. How aware are you of your self-awareness? The domain is moot at this point if you are a low level thinker, as you will not be capable of coaching anyone higher than you on the Awareness Quotient scale.

Specializing in a niche allows you to become an expert in your field. You can never learn too much or acquire too much education. As a coach, you learn with your clients. The more clients you coach, the more opportunties you have to fine tune your expertise. Each client is different and guiding them to meet their goals allows you to grow with them. New circumstances arise that may require new trainings or further knowledge on your part. Being a life long learner enhance your skills and allows you to be more affective with your clients.

Client specialization will help you have that clarity in how you are building the business. Your marketing strategies, content creation will be more focused with client specialization. When you are consistent in creating content that are targeting a specific market, with more exposure people will start recognizing you for the specific content you keep publishing. With that you end up creating a name for yourself in that specific area.

As you understand how humans construct their sense of self from a position of unawareness, you will recognise that any specialisation is meaningless. If you want to specialise, then you're essentially becoming a mentor and limiting your client market. The one thing that unites all contexts is HOW we think. I would recommend you focus on how YOU think in order to help others see their limited patterns. This transcends domains.

For example working with lawyers I focus on empowering them to strengthen their time management and planning and prioritizing skills which are executive functioning skills that can always be improved. When improvements are made time and energy is reclaimed, confidence grows and productivity sky rockets.

If you have high Dynamic Intelligence, you are doing this anyway. What is more important than retrospective reflection if joining the dots looking forward. How capable are you of joining the dots? How many dots can you see? If it's not that many, then you need someone to grow your own cognitive complexity before you can be useful to someone else. You need an MCO - More Complex Other. The IAD can help.

Retrospective is one of the strongest tool that helps in our growth. It’s simple, unless we reflect upon what went well and how can we deliver more value, how can we improve, how can we get better, even that 1% getting better each day attitude contributes a lot in our day to day delivery, our own growth and development. There are various tools available to apply the same. You can even use visual tools such as murals, miro, which consists of in-built templates.

Becoming an expert and excelling in any field takes a great deal of experience, but the irony in coaching is that beginners often struggle to break in. Even if you’re passionate about coaching, you must first establish your credibility to attract clients. However, without clients, gaining experience and building that credibility can be challenging. Therefore, it’s essential to invest time and resources in learning how to brand yourself effectively, market your skills, and network to connect with the right clients.
