Here's how you can foster a strong company culture from the ground up through internal communications.

During my stint at DMA Branding many years ago, I worked on the rejuvenation of many corporate brands like Dabur, Nerolac, Lotus Herbals, Air India, etc. Firstly, corporate identity rejuvenation doesn't mean a design exercise. The logo is a manifestation of the company's purpose and vision for the future. It's the meaning behind the logo and this should not just be a set of words engraved on walls or in fancy brochures. The purpose and values need to be brought alive in a manner that even the doorman understands it & therefore lives it. It is what will and should drive every employee to work every morning. Articulation followed by dissemination followed by action. Workshops, role plays, use of engaging tools versus plaques!

I feel a right culture having moment of truth and transparency is must. This brings a focus on customer centric right from and office boy till Managing director or CEO. As we say charity begins at home or top. A moment of truth and transparency to be practiced right from top is essential. However it requires a great deal of patience, practice and persuasion with perseverance.

To build a strong culture from the ground up, it’s essential to engage everyone—not just those in leadership roles or the most vocal employees. Consider implementing regular “all hands” meetings or town halls where everyone, regardless of their role or department, has an opportunity to contribute. For example, invite people to share their success stories or challenges during these meetings to create a sense of ownership and collective purpose. When everyone feels their voice matters, you cultivate a more inclusive and engaged culture that thrives on shared responsibility and collaboration.

Regularly acknowledging employees' efforts and achievements strengthens relationships and engagement. Take the time to celebrate successes, both big and small. This shows that you value their work and creates a positive environment where everyone feels appreciated.

We get extra patriotic near Independence/ Republic days and forget it for rest of the year. You get the point ? Constant / consistent / non pushy / well integrated messaging through verbal / non verbal cues.. right from induction onwards. J&J credo is still deeply ingrained in my mind.. only as it was everywhere and in every action. Everyday vs annual.
