Begin by conducting a comprehensive risk assessment that considers factors such as cybersecurity threats, data privacy concerns, and the physical and mental well-being of employees. Evaluate the potential impact and likelihood of each risk, considering both technical and human elements. Implement robust cybersecurity measures, such as secure VPNs, firewalls, and regular software updates, to protect against digital threats. Establish clear policies and training for data handling and remote work best practices. Additionally, monitor employee well-being by fostering communication, offering mental health resources, and promoting work-life balance.

Remote work needs a risk map. Identify all the threats, from data security to burnout. Categorize them by how likely and impactful they are. This visual guide helps you prioritize what to tackle first and keeps you in control of your remote work environment.

Much in the same way as 'risk' in its high level is measured (Red Amber Green) the monitoring plan needs to assess as many risks as it possibly can from 'remote working' One big headache is the 'security & confidentiality' of data working from home can create. Consider the needs of the employee; the operational needs of the Company; the nature of the work and its suitability to a remote working or working at home arrangement equipment for use to facilitate working remotely or from; additional costs the Company will incur (equipment or insurance costs, etc). Ensure employees working remotely or from home remain subject to Company policies and procedures & are available to be contacted throughout the work day, when working remotely from home.

Ensuring that all team members use secure connections and up-to-date software can mitigate many remote work risks. While preparing a Response Plan, it is important to have a holistic view i.e. to make a plan for each department. The Response Plan should clearly identify the responsibility of each department and each HOD should specify a specific DRI, to fulfill all the tasks mentioned in the Response Plan. For successful implementation of the Response Plan, it is necessary that proper training is given to all DRI, which will help them action in case of real life events.

Consider the Risks Team or Committee. Having a well represented team that caters for the diversity in jobs and levels of responsibility will ensure a holistic and more complete response. In addition, I find the best mitigation comes from those doing the job, so as a further step getting inputs from employees that are impacted by the risk or can impact the outcome is essential.
