I’ve always found that no professional should be judged based on their age, race, gender, etc. Diversity brings new and fresh ideas that challenge our traditional ways of thinking and allow us to grow as a community. Treat everyone with equal love and respect and you will create a workplace culture of inclusivity.

I still see way too many Manel’s! It’s 2023. For the last few years we have done a good job of raising this issue. I am fortunate to be invited to podcasts, panels, events, etc. But promoting & talking about DEI is one thing, taking action is another & that’s where I feel we (men) have a responsibility. I would look around & it would be all men, so for the last few years, one of my default questions to organizers - is who else is on the panel? If I’m about to be one of 3 or 4 men - not only do I decline, but I also do my best to offer up a female colleague or industry peer. I want my male peers to be aware this is not just our problem, but our opportunity to change the industry. It’s a small act that will have a material impact.

Reputation outside the industry isn't great and we are constantly looking for ways to attract new and diverse talent. But how about retaining existing talent and the knowledge of 'older workers' who feel left out when they reach a certain age? They might not want to work like they did in their 30s or 40s and they have still so much to give to the industry. Neither employees nor organisations are currently prepared for this transition. We think we need to work, work, work and one day completely retire from productive life. The reality is that we will want and need to work for longer, just in a different way. Organisations can also benefit by offering staged retirement, flexible work, retraining & reskilling for new roles. #ageinclusion
