I think as a retail manager is you want the team to really understand a realistic goal & “buy in “. Once the team feels part of the goal and owns it , they will go after the achievement of the goal. It’s about being part of a team and feeling an important part of the end results.

You will be surprised at the ideas that can come from including everyone when it comes to event planning. Not just department managers but everyone. I had an upcoming event one time and had a meeting about this looking for ideas. I had people in the meeting with 20 plus years experience. The best idea I had came from a checker that hadn’t been with the company that long. That was a great team building experience.

Teams sometimes limit their potential unknowingly. They lose confidence in themselves and their teams when results are not to standard. An effective leader, can change the mindset of their team by establishing trust with their leader. Leaders help with the game plan for the team to exceed goals and succeed. Showing employees their value and potential that they possess is empowering!

Understanding your team is vital! You can't support and acknowledge your team effectively without understanding their individual motivations; don't supplant your own motivations for theirs. And don't forget that it's okay to have non career orientated motivations, let them be honest. Use this info to motivate them with respect to their individual needs.
