In my experience, the key is to connect with the new person sincerely to generate trust. Of course you have to be professional, but try to be very warm and kind. Make a positive impact in the person and the new opportunities of collaboration will come spontaneously.

We proactively do this to ensure we can always make recommendations to our clients to match their needs and we offer speakers at multiple fee levels. Several strategies I have used: attending industry conferences and connecting with the keynoter, forming mastermind groups with speakers for ideation and recommendations, and creating a dedicated (hidden) page on our website that we regularly send to clients to recommend speakers we have seen present - we know they are an extension of my brand so I trust them fully. For every keynote I deliver for my clients, I always have two names of speakers I recommend to the meeting planner so that we can be a resource for them. It’s always great to do your due diligence. I recently did this. I connected with a CEO in my niche who commented on a mutual connection’s post. Here are the steps I took. 1) Comment on his comment 2) Reached out to connect. 3) Let him know what made me reach out 4) Sent him my calendar link 5) Thanked him for scheduling a time and let him know I was looking forward to meeting. 6) Folllowed up with a thank you after our meeting. The follow up is so important. You leave them with an impression and you also leave the door open for further communication.

I always appreciate receiving personal notes after my speaking engagements. Therefore, I keep writing to colleagues when I hear their lectures live or on demand. Sometimes, such a personal note is a great starting point for connecting on @LinkedIn.
