As in the case of any change initiative or innovation, there would be innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority and laggards (reference to Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations theory). By seeking out innovators and early adopters who have a high degree of opinion leadership and influence within the organisation, and working with them on the effective use of data, we will have greater leverage in inspiring all staff towards innovation and creativity in the effective use of data. These innovators and early adopters can then act as mentors to their peers, which in turn serves as a form of recognition for them, while also providing support for staff's data initiatives.

More often than not, teams in organisations tend to work in silos, and there could be duplication of data collection, or sources of data that is collected by one team that would actually be useful other teams as well. It would therefore be useful to have a data audit, where all the data that is collected and available within the organisation in alignment to organisation/business goals is identified and centralised for use, with information on the source or owner of the data, the purpose behind the data or the objective(s) that it serves, and who is using the data.
