Definitely, you should know your audience by heart. This has been a recurring problem I've seen in many companies and startups: they launch a product and a campaign into the market without a well-defined strategy, and even less so, an understanding of their audience. They don't know what a buyer persona is, what their audience does, their pain points, etc. We need to go back to those 'marketing basics'.

The biggest factor is trust. You have to trust the influencer and work collaboratively with them. If you pick a influencer you need to give them freedom to create great social content, otherwise it won’t come across authentically to their followers or yours. It will feel forced.

This format doesn't always work best. I've had more successful posts that contain 1 or 2 elements of the above. If you can say more concisely, then that will usually be better. Tone of Voice & the time you post is also really important to optimise reach. Keep on top of the latest trends. TikTok announced this week that 50% of their users are viewing content for longer than a minute. If they'd told us that 6 months ago we wouldn't have believed it at a time where we were busy slicing videos into 15 second segments.

So, you've found the perfect influencer for your brand but they don't want to work with you. Lesson: If it's not going to work for one, then keep looking because you can't force it. Keep channels open, you can re-approach when you have more budget or a better product in the future. I'd also love to share a couple of red flags. Influencers that bluntly say 'what's in it for me?', 'what's your budget?' or don't check your website before your first meet or email exchange aren't showing you the same level of respect as you gave them. Politely decline & move on. Be mindful of Influencers that have high follower numbers & high engagement but all their comments are the same. These are probably bot generated.
