How can you even aim at your target if you haven't defined your target properly ?? A lot of people who think they have gold to share market as though they have such wide appeal that if they throw enough noise out there, someone will hear it. Wrong.

I think you are in the rare minority if you are just doing something in one platform. I am looking at atomic newsletters, maybe shorts videos and ebooks. A lot of content is not as evergreen and that needs to be considered.

Your "weakness" can be your "uniqueness." Think of how you DON'T fit in with the other leaders on the issue. That is where you'll find your strength. When I worked for the Chairman/CEO of Coca-Cola (Neville Isdell), one "weakness" was that he didn't have a traditional "business" background. He was actually a qualified social worker! Therefore he looked at the business and its connections to communities much differently and holistically. From that we build a thought leadership platform on "Connected Capitalism" He was ahead of his time -- 2 years before Michael Porter's HBR piece on Creating Shared Value and 10 years before the Business Roundtable redefined the purpose of a corporation. Neville is a true thought leader!

In my experience, the best thought leadership platform is not the one where *my* thoughts "lead," but the one that inspires others to nurture their own inner thinker. Such a platform gives others a psychological safe place to develop their own unique ideas and perspectives. Where such ideas are encouraged, appreciated, accepted and embraced, at least in theory. It allows them to experiment with these ideas with others in a supportive environment. It gets them ready to express their ideas with courage and confidence. It may even give them a laboratory for failing safely before they bring them to the real world.

If you have a strong command of more than one major world language, I definitely recommend that you use them to gain more credibility internationally. Chinese Americans for example, could provide content in both Mandarin and English to cement their reputations as global thought leaders.
