Talking about how you and a team solved a critical business problem and summarizing with the business benefits is very powerful. Be sure to articulate your role on a team project. Were you on schedule and budget? What problem did you solve? Address any surprises and how you overcame them. Talking about your experience using real projects and situational examples gives you a chance to stand out and communicate succinctly.

The biggest thing that comes between efforts and achievement is often the lack of clarity on value you provide and lack of self-belief. Even though you are competing with others, it's more important to focus on how you'll will communicate your value vs. who is your competition. No. 1 Know Your USP. No. 2 Know How to Communicate it Clearly.

Be punctual. Be optimistic. Be professional. Be a hard worker. Dress for success. No whining. No complaining. No entitlement issues. Keep your head down. Do your work. That's who gets promoted. You won't have to even explain why you want to be promoted. Actions speak for themselves.

In my perspective, every human is different and have their own strengths and opportunities. Its about you and not them. So, there is not a need for comparison. Prioritize yourself through showcasing the value you bring on the table and are an asset to any team or organization you work.

It may seem counterintuitive, but it's actually a weakness if one cannot express what areas they are uncomfortable in and where they would benefit from opportunities to learn and grow. Failure to do so can make one seem unwilling to do so or overly fearful of stepping out of their lane. Seek growth and learning opportunities by honestly owning your weaknesses and embracing potential mentoring with a challenge. If you have a good team, they will appreciate your willingness to join in a new effort, even if you are not yet able to feel totally confident yet about your contributions.

In a perfect world you could actively try to engage in speaking to your manager as they would see your work directly but I have seen it work well and not work well, and that is not your fault. Actively seek out new topics and try doing different things or approaches and you can have learn more about yourself. Learn that failure is okay because you know you can get back up and try something else.

Yes, on LinkedIn and connect with the community. Make sure your exacts see that! Engage with their content as well. And more importantly, seek those valuable opportunities where you can stand out! And remember, do not be intimidated by the title!

I have found that working with management you can learn many tools. You also can showcase your skills and why you are a valuable resource. They also can see if you would be a good fit for a role. I have actually seen roles be created for people have shown certain skills that could be useful but not necessarily a normal job description.

In my opinion this is the primary way to differentiate yourself, aligning with your manager and org. First and foremost (while this sounds obvious) sharing that you WANT to be promoted to (specific position), what your goals are and how you want to achieve them. Then aligning on the path forward with your manager has always been my most successful way of both getting promoted and promoting others. It allows your manager to have tangible information to say ‘this is what they’ve done and how they’re exhibiting the qualities of (promotion position)’. You also get to align on what you can actually do to prove it to your manager and their leadership and have a specified goal to reach.

Build a meaningful, genuine relationship that is not sycophantic. Try to make their lives easier, also, by assisting colleagues with tasks so that they do not need to always go to your manager.

Demonstrating leadership qualities in essential for leading by example. I absolutely agree with the point that it's never necessary for you to hold a title for being a leader If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader!

The biggest mistake I see people do is to believe that working hard will get them a promotion.That's wrong! and so many people get trapped! What gets you a promotion, is a demonstration of your ABILITY TO TAKE ON HIGHER RESPONSIBILITIES. This has 2 implications: - you need to work on the skills needed for the higher level job (therefore working on YOURSELF, not only on your work) - these skills need to be visible by the decision makers and those influencing them (therefore networking, leading visible / key projects etc.) Of course, add to that the basics: - delivering performance in your current job (and exceeding expectations) - showing a great attitude and a behavior aligned with the company's expectations
