How can you improve your educational outreach programs for students who have experienced homelessness?

Very Simple 1. Provide them a Hostel environment first where Loding and Boarding is guaranteed with basic living amenities. That is the most basic and primary requirement. 2. Once the hunger part is taken, the mind is ready for “Learning Experiences”. Since we helped them with providing 3 meals a day and a place to rest, they will be thankful to you and started to Listen. 3. It is our opportunity to teach them about the importance of education. 4. Then teach them about aiming high, showing them examples of how many could do it from nowhere. 5. Set short term goals and long-term goals with a performance review timeline. Many years ago, there was a young lady in one of my classes who confided in me, letting me know that she was homeless. Worst yet, her mother had left home and relocated, leaving her daughter behind, to get by as best as she could. The student was a teenager. She cried out for help. Staff had never been challenged with a situation like this before. Our Social Worker was on the case. Teachers teamed up to meet the student's needs. Yet, there was a greater issue, who could step in as a parent, until the student was able to stand on her own? With agencies' help and the courts, the young lady went to live with a teacher's family. She successfully finished her education. Our social outreach grew from this challenging experience.

Use peer to peer model as people tend to connect better with those who have been through familiar situation. It also provides assurance that the intervention is not just for show off when people are able to connect with those who have been successful in completing it and are benefiting
