I have found CCI to be more helpful in uptrends, as it is indicative of when the shorter term correction/ dip is ending. Wait for the CCI 1st fall below -100 (-200 and below is even better), and then rise upwards and cross the -100 line. Once it gives a close above the -100 line (on your preferred timeframe), go long, with a SL of the recent low, for a target of a) mid Bollinger Band and then b) upper Bollinger Band. In a strong uptrend, one can add to positions above the Mid Bollinger Band, pyramiding it, and trail the SL to the low of the last 2 candles. In a weaker uptrend, the target is the relatively smaller 9sma But then again, this is an oscillator, and used at different times than indicators.

In my experience CCI is quiet subjective indicator, historical levels may have little impact. It’s lagging indicator and sometimes provides late signals, when the trend already reversed and price has already started significant correction. Should be used with other indicators, especially with price analysis.

Like any trading indicator or oscillator it has its pros and cons. After studying this diligently and applying it for three decades, I can confidently say that the most effective way to use the CCI is to combine a positive Divergence + a Bullish Support Area + a higher time frame uptrend. This has tested out well. Opposite for shorting.

Most folks use oscillators to help time entering or exiting a trade. IMO this is wrong. Better to understand them as a gauge of price momentum. Ifind the best use of CCI is to make it long and add an Exponential MA. I has used 144/55 effectively for years

We need to consider whipsaws. The signal is indicated by CCI, but the price doesn’t follow. It can occur quite frequently and we need another indicators to confirm or reject the signal.
