This is an important point. Diversity can pertain to the experiences ACROSS multiple individuals or WITHIN a single individual. Diversity of experience allows an individual to call on ideas and understanding from one to main to address problems in another domain. Very useful!!

When encountering toxic behaviors, it's essential to set boundaries, seek support, practice self-care, and sometimes distance yourself while remembering that developing emotional intelligence is an ongoing journey.

Go and get some skills... I left home and went to acting school at 17 - I was in the 5% of people from my town to move to the city... this was back when you could get an education grant in Ireland if you're family was poor. What I learned in those three years is the foundation for everything I've done since then. And I say that as someone who never went on to perform. I found the skills that I needed, and I applied them to other things. And I still do that. Those years should be about learning... they can be about making money as well (though they weren't for me... that took a long time). Learning is a super power. Everything you get wrong today, is something that you are readier to get right tomorrow...

Who needs a fancy education when you've got Google at your fingertips and a knack for falling down digital wormholes? The joy of learning through trial, error, and copious amounts of caffeine. Who needs a real PhD when you've got a PhD in memeology?

My mother used to tell me I didn't know what I wanted I've explored that many different: - Jobs - Paths - Experiences In life. I always told her the same thing. I know what I don't want. Not what I do want. And that comes from being a curious person. Why would we stick with one path when there's so many ideas, passions, experiences out there just waiting to be explored? I see life like an ever changing canvas that is yours to paint. To me the canvas will be a whole lot more interesting the more you try new things, expose yourself to new environments and continually stretch your comfort zone through curiosity.

Push yourself to step out of your comfort zones regularly. New experiences and stimuli can ignite fresh ideas and perspectives. Engage with people from different backgrounds. Curiosity about their experiences and perspectives can broaden your own, fostering new ways of thinking.

Albert Einstein said “I have no special talents I am only curious” You see an innovator or business strategist one of the things that will keep you going in this world of disruptive technology is “curiosity” If you doubt it go and ask inventors of your devices and technologies. What is a 'diverse background'? Any way of thinking that challenges a status quo. You can have diverse characteristics or diverse demographics without having diverse thinking. So it's important to know whether you're seeking people who look different vs. people who think different... They are not always the same....

The first time this working class from nowhere kid found an opportunity to direct a live theatre production... I was 18, and had no idea how to do it. But I knew I needed actors and a designer. I didn't know how to connect with those people... so I went to the two bid acting schools in Dublin and I asked to meet their graduates. 1 gave me 6 years of graduate showcase programmes. I called everyone - 150 actors - and invited them all to audition. Half the cast came from that. Some I've worked with many times since. I found a booklet listing Stage designers based in Ireland. I called all of them. 2 met with me. 1 took the job. And she designed all of my work until I moved to London. The people are there. But you have to go and find them.

Teams are becoming wider and include creatives, technologists, strategists and even AI powered devices to help us complete our tasks. In this scenario, leaving prejudices behind and approaching every project with an open mind is key and a diverse background, a lifesaver in many situations.

Diversity is not limited to demographic features. It is also not something consistent from one context to another. A janitor at a janitor's convention may not bring much diversity. But a janitor at a doctor's convention may bring a very different perspective.

The term "diversity" feels ambiguous to me. In my experience, "diversity" often implies being "global," which usually means following the dominant US economic model. While there's much to learn from this model, true diversity requires understanding and enhancing our own unique identities. We must listen to and amplify the voices of the less assertive and seek insights from those who are confident in expressing their opinions.
