You must be driven, self motivated, huge desire to achieve and financial motivation is in your DNA. You must be able to connect with people in both 1:1 and group situations. First, focus on understanding the sales process for the organization you are or will be working for as a sales representative. Second, get to know the customer base to whom you are selling. This is incredibly important as you need to understand the values of those you are making calls to for the business. Third, get to know the core products and services you offer at an in-depth level. These are 3 things I did not understand early in my sales career, but have come to learn and embrace the value of each of the aforementioned components.

In my experience, the most important thing about being a field salesperson is the training and development they will have from both their employers and themselves. They must deeply know the product or service they are going to sell, and on the other hand, their own learning and adaptability with the clients they visit. Therefore, learning your tools is not limited to what your employers give you, but is complemented with day-to-day empirical experience, courses, getting closer to your expert colleagues and market trends.
