Something that really helps in staying motivated in Corporate Finance is gaining experience in various functions across Corporate Finance. This gives the holistic view of the organization, industry. It also enables to align the processes and workflows within the organization with goals and vision. For example, working for treasury gives insights on the nuances of fundraising, cash and capital management, handling banking relationships, lender management, rating agencies. Investor relations gives insights on market and investor perceptions and expectations. Financial Accounting and Reporting provides insights on the actual performance in monetary terms while FP&A would help bridge the gap between the financial and the non-financial functions

To stay ahead in corporate finance, I make sure to keep up with the latest trends through courses, webinars, and industry news. I also look into getting relevant certifications to boost my skills. I love joining workshops and seminars to gain new insights. Staying updated on industry changes is important, but I focus on what directly impacts my work.

It's good to have a broad sense of general industry changes and trends (e.g. generative AI for finance) but if your organization or client stakeholders aren't yet ready to integrate this technology, there's no use in building depth here. Continue learning within the scope of your role and interests in the FP&A space. Use courses, webinar and meetups as ways to expanding your understanding on relevant topics that impact your day-to-day performance.
