What do you do if you receive negative feedback on your database design?

When I receive negative feedback on a project, I usually follow this process: Remind myself that I can learn something from this experience. This helps me approach the discussion more positively, with a mindset focused on listening and learning. Listen carefully and ask questions to truly understand the customer’s feedback. During this process, focus solely on listening, without trying to explain or prove anything. This is like an information-gathering stage. I strive to collect as much information as possible to fully understand the reasons and the aspects that may have caused the customer's dissatisfaction

Quand je reçois un retour négatif, je prends le temps d'écouter attentivement. Cela me permet de comprendre les préoccupations sans préjugés. J’essaie de voir au-delà du ton du feedback pour saisir les points concrets qui pourraient être améliorés dans ma conception. Il ne faut surtout pas prendre ses aspectes personnellement sinon nous n'aurons pas une réponse adaptée.

Through effective listening and having an open mind, it helps us to evaluate the pros and cons of feedback to make more informed decision. Cela implique de séparer les faits des opinions et de prioriser les commentaires selon leur impact potentiel sur la performance ou la fonctionnalité de la base de données. Les opinions étant propre à chacun, ils peuvent représenter une perte de temps dans la résolution du "conflit".

Si quelque chose n’est pas clair, je n'hésite pas à demander des précisions. Cela aide à éviter les malentendus et assure que les modifications que je planifie sont bien alignées avec les attentes et les besoins exprimés. Rien n'est plus important qu'une communication précise et adaptée. Sinon rien n'avance. J'aime beaucoup reformuler certains propos pour être sûr d'avoir bien compris les attentes.

Take the time to thoroughly review the feedback received, ensuring we understand each point raised and its implications on the data model design. Prioritize areas for improvement based on the significance and potential impact on the effectiveness of the data model. Define actionable goals for each area of improvement. Determine the changes need to be made to address the feedback effectively. Create a detailed action plan outlining the steps that we will take to implement the planned improvements. Assign responsibilities, set deadlines, and identify any resources or support needed to execute the plan successfully. Breakdown the improvements into smaller milestones and implement them incrementally.

Une fois le feedback bien compris, je planifie des améliorations en créant une liste d'actions concrètes. Je définis les priorités en fonction de l'urgence et de l'importance des problèmes à résoudre.

J'applique les changements nécessaires en suivant le plan établi. Je m'assure que chaque modification est bien testée avant de finaliser la mise à jour de la conception de la base de données. Il faut aussi prévoir la communication finale suite à l'implémentation et s'assurer que cela convient à tout le monde.

Every mistake is a valuable lesson. I compile these mistakes into a list of things to improve in my career. Having such a list helps me remind myself not to repeat the same errors in future tasks. Creating this list also enhances my understanding, helps me remember better, and increases my personal experience.
