Some of the greatest assets you can have when working within a matrix organization is a network of people that you can collaborate with. Often times, those within an organization that you reach out to to build a relationship with are struggling with challenges of their own and your willingness to help or point them in the direction of someone within your network that owns a specific role further enhances the willingness of others to partner with you. I've worked in several large organizations and sought out help from people that had a different reporting structure with their own specific challenges. What I was able to do was find a common pain point, establish how they are linked and lobby for support to a mutual win/win.
