In this way, it will make easier the decision of cutting (if it’s not longer needed), automatizing (if the issue is efficiency) or adding additional tasks (if the resources are being underutilized)

I think that although automated procedures exhibit a lower susceptibility to human errors, we need to consider their impact on society and if it is extremely necessary to make it.

But it is also that labour that helped create the company we work for, so we should try to protect it. As a former Controller of 25 years in Manufacturing, the most important thing is to know direct and indirect product cost as specifically as possible. I am perplexed that this is a cost accounting article. To my mind, direct labour is an operations issue. That said, I believe most people come to work to actually work. Give them work and they will produce. I have driven 30%+ direct labour productivity improvements through worker skills training - making sure everyone uses all of the best of the best techniques - and short term scheduling. Making sure there is work for every worker to do every hour seems obvious, but experience shows this is not always true. The other aspect is keeping equipment working properly so it can function at top OEE (speed*yield*uptime).
