One thing that I found helpful was developing networks within the industry niche. Over time the thematic areas in which you can advance an investment thesis begin emerging. This is an exercise that is essential, will require patience, intentional effort and attending a great deal of workshops and conferences. Allow some of them to even be boring and fruitless but it's important to the end goal of providing informed portfolio support and value added investment management.

Venture Capital is still a non-mature asset class. Markets and Economics will change rapidly but also trends, investors's requirements, LPs' opinions, etc ... the only way to move forward is by adding more relationships to your network, an open mind to learn and I will encourage everyone to go through a personal SWOT analysis. It is important to understand who we are as a person and a professional and build new opportunities over our weaknesses.
