These questions are still key for us all, especially startup leaders. Only if the answers to these questions are a bright guiding beacon for your life will you be able to maintain the commitment to yourself and your team to inspire them to change the world. Startups are all consuming - make all that effort mean something special.

As a startup founder, knowing my purpose involves understanding why I initiated this venture. It goes beyond simply creating a successful business; it's about the intrinsic motivation that drove me to solve a particular problem or bring a unique solution to the market. My purpose is intertwined with my passion, values, and long-term vision for the company. This purpose will not only guide my day-to-day decisions but also serve as a compass during challenging times, reminding me of the bigger picture and helping me maintain focus and resilience through the startup journey.

As an agency founder, I came to accept that I have "shiny object syndrome" and while I love coming up with ideas and beginning their implementation I wasn't the best at carrying the ball "into the end-zone." My best hire was one of my first hires, she is a project and process manager who loves making sure that things get done and that they are done efficiently. I believe the lesson here is to be ok with your weaknesses and find someone who will compensate for them.

Partnering is the key to success as a start-up and often the need for partnerships is identified too late in the creation of a business model. When you talk to potential partners the last thing we want to hear about is your product or solution (crazy?). I often tell startups that their biggest problem is that they don’t know what my biggest problem is. Then they spend that first precious hour with me talking about a solution that doesn’t actually help me or my company. The best first impression a startup can make is by getting to know me first - it’s like dating. You’d never talk about marriage on the first date so don’t do it with your product either!
