My honest opinion is: "Realistic" is something completely subjective to each one of us. Your vision of "realistic goals" might be different from mine. Therefore, what the coaching professional should do, is first assess what "realistic" means to the client and what boundaries and barriers they put on themselves. That will define the base of work and from there, we can work together to achieve their goals. 🚀

É fundamental fazer um processo que eu chamo de Coaching Education, para que ele entenda que o Coach não é "mágico", o foco é no desenvolvimento, e o sucesso do processo depende muito mais dele que de que de mim. Isso posto, é preciso estabelecer metas realistas e alcançáveis, definir que é um processo e não um salto, então leva um tempo, provavelmente haverá correção de rota, estabelecer inicialmente metas menores e celebrar mesmo os pequenos avanços. Vale também destacar que é preciso definir no inicio três coisas importantes: 1 - O que o cliente espera alcançar no final; 2 - De 0 a 10 o quanto ele está comprometido com o processo; e, 3 - O que ele define como sucesso no final.

Assess Current Situation: Evaluate their starting point and any existing challenges. Set Achievable Milestones: Break down goals into smaller, manageable steps. Establish a Timeline: Create a realistic timeline for achieving each milestone. Discuss Potential Barriers: Identify possible obstacles and plan how to address them. Encourage Flexibility: Emphasize the need to adjust expectations as needed based on progress. Review Progress Regularly: Schedule regular check-ins to assess progress and adjust goals as necessary.

I like to let the client define their expectations of themselves, but I ask upfront what’s their expectation of me as their coach. I make sure to share how I can support them, but also that they are the ones doing the work, I’m their guide and advisor. This usually helps them to reset. They realise that for coaching to be successful, it takes a lot of work. We then regularly review their goals, and overtime they realise what can be achieved. I can give some indication up front what I believe they can achieve, but I don’t know them yet and I can’t deny them their expectations before I understand them.

Um die Erwartungen zu managen ist es notwendig, den Kunden ein best Case scenarion und ein Worst case Scenario zu entwerfen. Und es ist wichtig, dem kunden klar zu machen, dass sein Wachstum sehr von seiner inneren Einstellung beeinflusst wird. Erst wenn er diese Zusammenhänge versteht, mache ich eine Art Meilensteinplan. Und dann muss der Kunden einschätzen, was er/sie sich zutraut. Ich beschreibe nur die angewandten Methoden und der Kunde sagt, was wirken wird und was wie lange dauert.
