You’re conducting employee performance evaluations. How can you make them more engaging?

I have seen people change from a confused contributor to shining stars if managed in right manner by right people managers. To make employee performance evaluations more meaningful, 1. Focus on two-way communication, 2. Set clear goals, have regular check-ins, 3. Include employee self-assessments and growth path visions, 4. Show recognition and appreciation, 5. Offer training opportunities and 6. Provide constructive feedback. This has to be done with upmost focus on what do we want to achieve out of people getting evaluated which has to be 365 days process and not once a year sign-off.

Performance evaluation can be made more engaging by following the below activities: 1. A clear goal setting should be done by the employee at the beginning of the review year, the same needs to be acknowledged by the manager. 2. Goals can be visited by the manager along with the employee every month or once in a quarter, if the employee is running behind or facing a challenge then the goals need to be revisited, and closed. 3. Monthly performance (check-in) conversations between the employee and the manager can give a real-time check of how the progress is going ahead. 4. Introducing performance coaching can greatly help the employee to keep his goals aligned with the strategy of the organization.

When we talk about employee for their performance evaluation, there is a tension and nervousness in the air. I think it can be done right by : When we conduct employee's performance evaluation meeting, we should ask the employee to do self-evaluation and discuss with the panel what he/she thinks are the pros and cons of their work. After self-evaluation, the manager will be able to put some light on the points mentioned by the employee and also add some of his points and this process will turn the meeting more interesting and less stressing. Engagement of both the parties in the meeting is important as the thoughts and feedbacks which is to be worked on will be done wholeheartedly and happily by the employee hereafter

By sharing the general objectives of the company with the staff and show them by cascading these objectives and show the role of each dept. in the company in achieving these objectives.. These help in engaging the company staff. Also bring out their loyalty as they will need to achieve there dept. Objectives in order to help in achieving the company's ones. Also this way show the fairness in the performance per each dept and per each staff.

Today we have access to mountains of data. There’s no excuse for subjective performance reviews anymore. Managers should come prepared with data from a variety of sources such as recent recognition, 360 degree feedback, talent review ratings, one-on-one notes, goal progress, and more.
