(These points were learned from personal experience during the 2019 flood that occurred in our Mumbai office.) 1. Evacuation procedures : - Evacuate occupants as per emergency protocols. - Notify emergency services (fire department, police, or disaster response teams). - Shut down utilities (gas, electricity, water) if safe to do so. 2. Response & Precaution : - Floor wise Fire door isolation. - Deploy flood barriers or pumps to control water entry. - Activate backup power systems (e.g., generators) 3. Communication & Coordination : - Inform key stakeholders & services. - Maintain clear documentation (photos, videos, incident logs) for insurance and recovery. 4. Post-Incident : - Assess structural integrity before restoration.

The first response had been covered in details by the peers - here some ideas how to secure the recovery. As the property is the most valuable physical asset, it’s normally insured. But sometimes all this tiny font of insurer’s T&C makes claims challenging. Seamless insurance claims could be secured by 1) selecting comprehensive coverage, 2) verifying policy limits, and 3) maintaining updated documentation of assets and property conditions in digital form, stored at the cloud. Implementing risk mitigation measures like flood barriers and fire-resistant materials can lower premiums and prevent damage. Understanding claims procedures, deadlines, and leveraging digital technologies for assessments ensures faster recovery and good protection.

In a property emergency like floods or fires, swift action is critical. First, ensure everyone's safety by following evacuation protocols and contacting emergency services immediately. If safe, shut off utilities like gas, electricity, or water to prevent further hazards. Use fire extinguishers or barriers to contain small-scale damage. Document everything—photos and videos will be crucial for insurance claims. Communicate transparently with tenants, employees, or stakeholders. Once the immediate crisis is under control, engage professionals for damage assessment and restoration. Finally, review and strengthen emergency preparedness plans to mitigate future risks.
