For me maintaining a trade-off between the primary risks that can be avoided easily are part of my checklist. But I also have a habit to maintain some bandwidth for impromptu challenges and adversities on every project I work upon. You should always have a stronger hand on a few useful tools that can solve things for you!

It is good to explore new tools if they may help you. However, it is also important to reassess if that tool might help you in the long term as one would have to invest resources on learning and further extrapolate its use with your model. It is also recommended to be flexible to explore other tools if the results do not seem to be satisfactory. So while it is good to utilise new tools, it is also important to understand and assess its ramifications.

Perform a return on investment (ROI) analysis to justify the adoption of new tools based on their long-term benefits versus initial costs and disruptions.
