Research indicates that diversity within teams significantly enhances organizational performance and fosters innovation in modern industries such as automotive manufacturing. Additionally, another study demonstrated that cultural diversity in teams increases their ability to adapt to complex organizational challenges (Kearney & Gebert, 2009). In the context of automotive manufacturing, team diversity can contribute to improving product quality and reducing errors by leveraging interactions among diverse skills and experiences (Williams & O'Reilly, 1998).

A solid diverse team enables the team to think in a way broader way. Ways of handling things and doing stuff is getting mixed and something that fits the team perfectly is brewed up.

As I can tell from my experiences in Formula Student, this is especially the case in the automotive race engineering industry. The race starts at 11:00, but the ECU malfunctions at 09:30 during initial checks. You’d have to try and finish this as soon as possible. This can also be said for commercial cars. The newest software might cause bugs in the autonomous software of the car and injuries need to be prevented. This requires rapid problem solving skills.

The greatest example of this can be found in a lot of start-ups, where with a small group of dedicated engineers you want to make sure the project succeeds. In that small team, you feel part of something bigger than you and I. This is essential for motivating employees and reaching the top potential of the project.
