Soapbox time: I have been in the business for over 30 years. When I started, you went to film school primarily because you needed access to equipment and, pre-dvd's, you didn't have director commentary and things like that. Now, we all have a 4K camera in our pocket that shoots RAW and you have thousands of director commentaries and discussions with everyone from producers, to directors, to DPs, composers and costumers on YouTube. The only real reason to go to film school these days is for the connections you may make there... with your peers. Other than that? go be a P.A. and shoot short films on the weekend. There is NO better training than DOING. And you needn't be a master of everything. This is a collaborative art. Lean on your team.
