Imagine a day where the future of technology came alive right before your eyes. On April 20th, 2024, the 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, D.C., in partnership with Escape Velocity Academy, hosted an unforgettable STEM-based drone exercise for 60 eager mentees from our Saturday Leadership Academy. This wasn't just any event; it was the grand finale of the 2023-2024 year, held at Friendship Public Charter School Ideal Campus in Washington, DC. As you stepped onto the campus, the air buzzed with excitement and anticipation. Our young participants dove into a hands-on DRONE experience that combined aerial drones with competitive gameplay, introducing them to the fascinating worlds of aerospace and aviation. They learned the intricacies of coding and programming, explored the vital role of drones as first responders, and captured stunning images through aerial photography. The day also covered essential skills in program management, maintenance, and repair, providing a comprehensive look at the commercial drone industry. This event was a cornerstone of our "STEM the 100 Way" initiative, a commitment to exposing youth to cutting-edge tech concepts not typically found in school curriculums. Escape Velocity’s mission to fast-track young adults into high-demand careers in science and technology was perfectly embodied in this event. Through recreational drone flight and competitive gameplay, our mentees were introduced to aviation, aerospace, and project management. The day was a vivid demonstration of how recreational activities can seamlessly blend with educational objectives, opening doors to endless possibilities in unmanned aviation for middle and high school students. We invite you to relive this once-in-a-lifetime event through our video recap and see firsthand the excitement and learning that unfolded. Witness the future leaders and innovators as they took to the skies, guided by mentors dedicated to their success. This was more than an event; it was a launchpad for dreams. #STEMthe100Way #FutureLeaders #DroneExperience #TechInnovation #ONETEAM #LEADERSHIP #EMPOWERMENT #GAMING #NEXTGENERATION #SLA #saturdayleadershipacademy #100blackmendc #100blackmen #100bmoa #WhatTheySeeIsWhatTheyllBe #mentoring #education #healthandwellness #economicempowerment #drones

Step into the vibrant world of our Saturday Leadership Academy with a unique feature highlighting one of our own success stories. Meet Slade Hopkins, a 2023 Montgomery Blair High School graduate in Montgomery County, MD, and a former SLA mentee who matriculated from our program and is now thriving in college. Recently, he stopped by to reconnect and share his journey with us. Through "Where are they now," we're granting Slade a platform to reflect on his experiences and the lasting impact of SLA on his life. This is a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and education, as he embodies the spirit of growth and empowerment. What truly sets this feature apart is the personal narrative from Slade, who epitomizes the resilience and determination nurtured at SLA. Join us as we commemorate his journey and continue to instill these qualities in the next generation of leaders. This initiative further enhances and promotes our motto of "Mentoring across a lifetime" as we witness the impact of mentorship from SLA to college and beyond. #EmpowerThroughEducation #SaturdayLeadershipAcademy #ONETEAM #LEADERSHIP #EMPOWERMENT #NEXTGENERATION #SLA #saturdayleadershipacademy #100blackmendc #100blackmen #100bmoa #STEMTHE100WAY #WhatTheySeeIsWhatTheyllBe #mentoring #education #healthandwellness #economicempowerment
