Central Ohio's Uplifting and Encouraging radio station!

About us

River Radio Ministries is the parent company of 104.9 the River (Columbus), 89.3 the River (in Newark & Chillicothe), 90.9 the River (Lancaster) and LoveCbus. Founded in 1965, our mission is built around connecting others to Jesus and each other. Then, together, making a difference in the community. While the story started with a radio station, the RRM Team noticed a need to connect people to more music and more help. From there it’s been a growing phase, and it hasn’t stopped. Our service to the business community comes in the form of relationships: We help you build relationships with our listeners so they think of you first and feel the best about you when they need what you sell. We do this through radio advertising, using our schooled team of storytellers to help you share your business's story with our passionate and loyal listeners! We know our listeners are passionate and loyal because they are "bought in" to the station. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we have many generous listeners and business partners who donate to help our mission of sharing hope with Central Ohio! If you are curious about radio advertising, or want to know more about our mission, please reach out. Thanks for getting to know us!

    President/CEO at River Radio Ministries

Ever have an epiphany that your strategy didn't align with your vision? Our radio station just wrestled through this revelation and wanted to share. As a faith based, non-profit, we do fundraising – and because we are a radio ministry, our fundraising is on the air and we invite our listeners to give. For many years, our strategy has been raising money against goals, essentially every 30 minutes. We share a goal, tell people to give NOW to hit our goal, then we ask, plead, beg, cajole the audience for 10-20 minutes until we hit the goal. It sounds a little circus-like, but has generally been effective...in hitting goals. However, it is a big turn-off to those that have already donated or those that don’t want to donate. AND, the focus is on raising money, which is NOT the mission of our organization. When recently confronted with this reality, we were encouraged to focus on our mission – Showing People Who Jesus Really Is, and telling the stories of how we were actively doing that in the lives of our listeners. We have a TON of those stories. Ultimately, people don’t give to a goal, even though we have trained them to, and we had mixed in some missional stories. People, however, do give to a cause and a reason – a “why.” So this week, during our on air fundraiser, we are doubling down on the stories of listeners telling us WHY they love our station, what it does for them and why they give, and we are asking others to join in the mission. The ask has an entirely different feel. More mission driven and not goal driven. Is it as effective? Time will tell. But it is more authentic (one of our core values) and who we want to be, not what we want people to do. Look at your mission and vision. Do your strategies align with them? Do you need to rethink and tweak or overhaul? Love to hear your thoughts. This is a big step of faith for us. But it is an alignment check we needed.

BREAKING NEWS: I am speaking at my first conference! Ok, not exactly breaking news, but it feels like an exciting moment for me to encourage a group of folks that are working on improving their skills in business and life. My friend, Roy Hall Jr., has asked me to speak at his conference, the Roy Hall Jr. Leadership Conference presented by the Tailwind Group on May 16th. I’ve had the privilege of attending all his previous conferences, and Roy can put on an event! Quality, excellence and energy are his hallmarks. His past speakers have been practical, compelling and diverse. Business owners, coaches, former athletes, military leaders, entrepreneurs, pastors; names you know (Jane Grote Abell, Ryan Day, Debbie Penzone, Urban Meyer) and names you may not (Dr. Brandon Shriner, Nate Salley, Lt. Col. Charles Buchanan, Pastor Joel Kovacs). This year, Roy has allowed me to share the stage with a couple heavyweights, retiring OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith, and former OSU National Championship Football coach, Jim Tressel; and of course Roy Hall, Jr, an accomplished speaker in his own right, and a number of other excellent individuals. The list of speakers that you may not know may be bigger than the names you recognize. Former Buckeyes, a clinical psychologist, Gen Z entrepreneur, business leaders. Yes, I’m trying to entice you to grab a ticket or a table for you or your company and check it out! You won’t be disappointed. I have the honor of speaking about one of my favorite topics – networking! I’ll share some of the skills and tools I’ve used over the past 30 years to turn acquaintances into allies and help you add value to relationships that you are cultivating. Should you need info on tickets and speakers and all other details, find them at https://lnkd.in/gvRvjGAh. It’s going to be a great day…and will be even greater with you present!

Don’t know about your workplace the last few years, but here we’ve had some disagreements. And speaking candidly, some of my co-workers opinions are just plain wrong…and offensive. And, here’s the shocker, they believe the same thing about mine! “You can CHOOSE to be ‘unoffendable.’” That’s how the book by Brant Hansen, Unoffendable, begins. And having read it, I still live like I’m skeptical. So what better way to challenge my thinking than to take our entire team at River Radio | 104.9 | 89.3 | 90.9 through the book study over the next 6 weeks during our “Mandatory Chapel” (Yeah, our work has a mandatory chapel. We don’t sugar coat it. It’s called Mandatory Chapel). Somehow, we have to find a way to work together, accomplish goals that are way bigger than us, and do it in a spirit of cooperation and unity. The reality is, we get along here decently well. But most of our challenges stem from working with people. So why a team book study? It promises a few things we need: - Getting freedom from anger that isn’t destructive. (HINT: starts with forgiveness) - Addressing injustices in life better WITHOUT anger. - Letting go of our “right” to be offended can actually reduce stress and simplify our entire lives. This concept really challenges me. But I believe that if we practice what it says together, we will all live better lives at work, at home and in our community. And we will also do a WAAAY better job of showing people who Jesus really is. And that just happens to be our mission.
