Your voting rights had a cost! Today, on Women's Equality Day, we honor the courageous advocates who paid that price and fought for our right to vote. Their courage has paved the way for progress in many other areas. As we celebrate this win, let us also remember those around the world who still lack equitable access to voting and representation in government. Let's continue the fight for a world where everyone has the right to choose how they are governed.

Last week, Girl Rising's Kenya Country Program Manager, Deborah Odenyi, presented at the Inaugural East African Community Regional Education Conference and Celebration of the African Union in Arusha, Tanzania. Debbie shared insights from our Life Skills Education (LSE) programs with over 600 participants, including key organizations across East Africa and beyond. It was an inspiring opportunity to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the global conversation on education. The key recommendations from our paper focused on: Creating narrative research to assess the complexities of LSE and gendered attitudes. Deepening engagement on LSE and gender among adolescents to prepare them for the future. Building supportive environments for educators and school staff through pre- and in-service training. We're committed to continuously learning, measuring, and sharing to ensure our programs foster 21st-century skills in adolescents. #GirlRising #EducationForAll #LifelongLearning

Afghan Olympian Kimia Yousofi (@kimiaa_yousofi) sprinted her 100m heat carrying a powerful message handwritten on her bib - "Education, Sport, Our Rights." Yousofi is part of the country’s six-member Olympic team – made up of three men and three women. Born to refugee parents in Iran during the Taliban’s previous rule, Yousofi relocated to Afghanistan to represent the country in the 2016 Rio Olympics and was the country’s flag bearer at the Tokyo Games in 2021. She relocated to Australia with the help of the IOC in 2022 to train with coach John Quinn who said, "I think Kimia is an inspiration to women and humanity around the world. Having the courage to have a voice and speak up. For some people it’s (about) winning gold, silver, bronze, for others it’s about making a stand.” Photo credits: Tom Jenkins/The Guardian-AFP
