Growing up in Delhi, where some breathe clean air while others suffocate under pollution, Girl Rising Student Ambassador Zainab Bie saw firsthand that climate change isn’t just an environmental crisis—it deepens social and economic inequalities. Her experiences shaped her belief that true climate justice must include gender justice. With the hopes of her community resting on her shoulders, she arrived at Climate Week NYC 2024 last month determined to ensure that world leaders and organizations listen to the voices of girls and women. 🎉 Exciting news from the Kaavish Project in Pakistan! We’re proud to announce new partnerships with Mir Ali Bazar School and The Learnium School. Together, through our 16-week curriculum, we’re promoting social-emotional learning, gender equity, and confidence-building among adolescents in Pakistan. We’re also engaging educators, parents, and community members to become allies for girls and help break down barriers to education. As Ms. Sania, Principal of The Learnium School, shared, “I am confident that when this curriculum is implemented with students, they will gain a whole new perspective on their dreams and the power of inner strength.”

The young people who participate in the Girl Rising programs through our partners in Guatemala, Kenya, India and Pakistan know that they have the giant power to build a better future - and it’s up to us to support their vision. Thank you, Little Giants (littleGIANTS intl) of Guatemala, for your vision and passion. How are you driving change? Share your story, tag Girl Rising, and use the hashtag #IAmGirlRising10.

The escalating conflict in the Israel-Palestine region, which began just over a year ago, has created a devastating humanitarian crisis with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. Reports from organizations like the United Nations continue to show that women and children are disproportionately affected, making up to 70% of the death toll. The conflict from the beginning has included gender-targeted attacks on Oct 7 when over 1,200 Israelis were killed and 250 were taken hostage. More than a year later, the conflict has expanded into Gaza, Lebanon, and beyond, destroying lives and livelihoods, destroying homes, schools, hospitals and safe access to food and water. Girl Rising is deeply concerned about the ongoing harm to civilians, particularly children. We stand with the United Nations and other human rights organizations in calling for the release of all hostages and an immediate ceasefire.

“It’s the stories of girls which shine a light on their voices, their agency - without these things, no amount of reading and writing skills will take hold.” These are the powerful words of Cofounder, Executive Director of Sunflower Trust, and Girl Rising Partner Rukia Sebit, who spoke to a captivated audience of nearly 300 Girl Rising supporters at last week’s 10th-anniversary gala. Her words perfectly capture Girl Rising's belief in the transformative power of storytelling and advocacy in breaking down barriers to girls’ education. As we celebrate this milestone, we are deeply grateful to our champions HP, Intel Corporation, CNN International, Paramount Pictures, the Gerald L. Lennard Foundation, the Tedone family, and many others for making our work possible. We look forward to continuing this journey together, expanding our impact to ensure more girls have access to education and opportunities. Educating girls is essential to ending poverty. UNESCO reports that if all individuals had access to two more years of schooling or completed secondary school, it would lift nearly 60 million people out of poverty. This International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, share this post to highlight how girls' education can break the cycle of poverty! #InternationalDayForTheEradicationOfPoverty

Natural disasters can derail progress in girls' education and gender equity. Many countries don't include gender provisions in disaster plans despite women and girls being worst impacted, but we can change that! Let’s make sure our leaders prioritize gender in climate and disaster strategies. Together, we can protect education and ensure a brighter future for all! 💪🏽🌍 #InternationalDayforDisasterRiskReduction

Did you know that immigrant and refugee youth are more likely to be victims of bullying than their US-born peers? While immigrants enrich our communities with diverse perspectives and skills, anti-immigrant rhetoric and xenophobia create unsafe school environments. This bullying stifles their potential and hinders their education. Everyone deserves a safe space to learn and grow, free from fear and discrimination. Let’s foster inclusion, compassion, and understanding in our schools and beyond. Source: (Maynard et al., 2016)

A decade ago, our "Girl Rising" film team embarked on a mission to showcase the incredible power of girls and the global change they can drive. What we discovered was that their power is even greater than we imagined—they are truly unstoppable. Since launching our global programs, we’re continually inspired by the leadership and vision of the young people who take part in them. From Shweta in India, fighting to end child marriage, to Mackrine in Kenya, who advocates passionately for her right to education, girls are rewriting the future and leading positive impact in their communities. We're honored to support their journey and break down barriers in their way! This International Day of the Girl, let's celebrate their power and resilience. Share this post to honor the amazing girls in your life who make our world better every day. Learn how you can join our movement at girlrising.org. #IAmGirlRising10
